Overview

Mohare Danda trek is recently opened a short, easy, and enjoyable trekking destination which is in the mid-western region ( Annapurna region ) of Nepal.

The Mohare Danda is situated at the elevation of 3,300 meters from the sea level. Also, this trail is considered as the best alternative choice for Ghorepani Poon hill trek.

It is an ideal trek for the people with a desire to enjoy the panoramic view of mountains and encounter village life with limited time or who are concerned about high altitude. Also, this trekking route helps to promote sustainable Eco-tourism and uplift the lifestyle of local inhabitants.

It is not specified as the best season to explore this trek. Though, Autumn and Spring are the best seasons for Mohare hill trek. The trail was started in 2010 with the help of UNDP/MEDEP. This trek was initiated to promote sustainable Eco-tourism and support the local community projects to uplift local people’s living standards.

Focusing on Village tourism, they offer homestay and local lodges and one can get golden time to directly interact with the local people so that they can have a deeper understanding of the cultural and traditional practices.

The Mohare Danda Trek begins from Galeshwor, a short drive from Pokhara, This trek is admired for the beautiful landscapes, including rice terraces; panoramic views of the silvery mountains, and walking through one of the world’s biggest colorful rhododendron forests.

You will be delighted to witness the spectacular sunrise over the whole Himalayan peaks including Fishtail-6998m, Annapurna I- 8091m, Annapurna II- 7939m, Annapurna III-7555m, Annapurna IV-7525m, Himchuli – 6441m, Annapurna South – 7219m, Dhaulagiri – 8167m, etc.

Detailed Itinerary

You will be transferred to the Hotel by one of our representatives. Welcome dinner at one of the traditional Nepali restaurants in Kathmandu with folk music and dances.

A scenic drive for about 7 hours to Pokhara by a private vehicle.

Drive Time: 6 – 7 hours (200Km)
Difference in Elevation: – 514m.

A scenic drive for about 4 hour takes us to Galeshwor where we start our trek to Banskharka. It is about 2 – 3 hours trek depending on our pace. The trail goes through lush green forest.

Enjoying the view of the mountain ranges, lush green forest and traditional Magar villages; we trek to Nangi, a traditional Magar village.

As we continue our trek, we walk through the lush green forest of Oak and Rhododendrons and the view of the mountains are superb for major part of the day. We can enjoy the glorious sunset view from Mohare hill station (if weather permits).

Start our day with the great sunrise view over the magnificent mountains of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna ranges. The view point is not far from the lodge so we can enjoy the splendid view of the mountains and sunrise during our breakfast as well. Then continuing our trek, we walk through the Rhododendron forest enjoying the view of the Dhaulagiri and Annapurna mountains to Ghorepani (This is where we get back to classic Annapurna trail).

In the early morning we hike to Poon Hill (3210m) to catch sunrise over the magnificent mountain ranges. Seventeen different mountain peaks including two of the highest ones in the world; Dhaulagiri( 8167m, 7th Highest) and Annapurna I (8091m, 10th Highest) as well as Annapurna II( 7939m), Annapurna III(7555m), Annapurna IV(7525m), Machhapuchhre (6993m), Himchuli(6441m), Annapurna South(7219m), Tukuche Peak(6920m), and Lamjung Himal(6986m) can be seen. Then we retrace our steps to Ghorepani. After breakfast we continue our trek climbing a small hill leaving behind the view of Poon Hill then trail descends through dense mossy forest rich with bird life to Tadapani.

Our day starts with a steep descend from Tadapani through rhododendron forest. As we approach to Gurjung, trail ascends through paddy field. We then take an easy walk to Chhomrong, where we can have very close views of Annapurna and Fishtail.

The trek to Jhinu Danda takes about an hour where we stop for a relaxing plunge into hot spring. After our relaxing dip in hot spring, continue our trek to Landruk, a small Gurung village, where you can see some traditional Gurung round houses.

We continue our trek towards Pothana enjoying the view of Annapurna and Pokhara valley. It is about 5 hours trek, goes through several small Gurung settlements.

Start our hike down to Phedi early in the morning enjoying the view of Pokhara valley. As we arrive in Phedi, our bus picks us up and drives to Pokhara. In the afternoon, we visit Devi’s fall, Gupteswori Cave and World Peace Stupa.

Climate

Climate:
From the eternal snow of the high peaks to the extensive tropical lowlands, Nepal has a wide variety of climates.

Spring: March to late May: In this season, Kathmandu is in full bloom, lots of different types of flowers can be seen at this time of the year.  Temperature is mild, end of the cold winter and approaching warm and hot summer.  Temperatures vary between 10 ° C to 28 ° C but can rise up to 30 ° C.  Between 2000 and 3000m, temperature rarely drop below 0 ° C. However, few frosts or snowfalls are possible in March above 4000 m.

The summer/monsoon period – It interrupts the majority of trekking from late June to late August. Some of the trekking regions “trans-Himalayan”, Dolpo and Mustang, however, remain protected from monsoon prevailing rest of the country. They are the only channels available in Nepal in the summer.

Autumn: mid September – mid December – Perfect temperature and weather for trekking. Brings cooler days, but clear skies. Above 3000 m altitude, temperatures can drop to -10 ° C at night.

In winter: mid-December – mid-February – Nights are generally cold, dry climate, Above 3000m, temperature drop down to 0 ° C to – 15 ° C at night, the days are often sunny.
